SILVERDALE rescued a seemingly dire situation to record a remarkable victory against Milnthorpe at Park Road despite posting only 79 in their innings.

After James Parkinson dismissed both openers cheaply, Sam Woodburn ripped through the Silverdale middle order to leave the Cove Road outfit staring down the barrel of defeat.

The main contributor to the Silverdale cause was the extras column which totalled 40, with the visitors routed inside 25 overs as Woodburn claimed 5-23.

Chasing only 80 for victory, Milnthrope failed to generate any form of momentum as Paul Moffatt and Jon Mason wreaked havoc to dramatically turn the tide in Silverdale’s favour.

Mason returned figures of 5-24 and Moffatt 4-28 as Milnthorpe were decimated for 53, with only Phil Bovis and Lee Illingworth reaching double figures.

Reigning champions Arnside once again flexed their muscle to record a second 15-point haul of the summer following a 127-run win at home to Sedgwick.

After losing three quick wickets and slipping to 43-3, Arnside opener Oliver Richardson-Hogg led the recovery with 56 as Alex Davidson hit 28.

At 127-7 in the 28th over, tail-enders Rob Shepherd, Chris Howsley and David Birch combined to push the score to 198-9, with Adam Hornby the pick of the Sedgwick bowlers.

In reply, wickets fell at regular intervals with Sedgwick slumping to 37-7 before being bowled out for 71, with seamer Adrian Lee and spinner Birch taking two wickets apiece.

The only other side to claim 15 points was Heysham who notched  a comfortable seven-wicket success at home to Bolton le Sands.

Struggling at 13-4, Bolton le Sands were all out for 127 with Jon Carter top-scoring with 45, as Adam Dixon hit 20.

Heysham chased down their victory target with ease, Andrew Iddeson the main run-scorer as the Carr Lane club secured their first victory of the campaign.

Shireshead claimed a winning draw against Warton during a keenly contested affair at Hyning Park, with the visitors unable to snare one final wicket for victory.

Reduced to 22-5, a sixth-wicket partnership of 66 inside 13 overs between Shireshead’s Phil Oliver and Nick Rafferty changed the course of the game.

Oliver scored 42 as Rafferty added 31, while Graeme Crowther claimed 5-42, building on his four-wicket haul against Ambleside last time out.

In reply, Danny Wilkinson removed both openers cheaply en route to figures of 2-20, before Warton’s Ricky and Ryan Nelson added 31.

Peter Wilson dismissed both to expose the middle order as Uzair Shah claimed 4-9 to reduce Warton to 77-8, as skipper Gareth Finney fell for 18.

However, young pair Marcus Nicholson and George Pickering survived ten overs, batting with determination to ensure Warton avoided defeat.

Windermere claimed a winning draw against Ambleside after being bowled out for 163, with Sam Fletcher top-scoring with 66 as Oli Wileman claimed 5-64.

Struggling at 63-6 in reply, Ambleside were facing defeat before Wileman also produced with the bat, striking 69 as the Rydal Road club ultimately fell five runs short of victory.

Alistair Gage and Andy Trueman finished unbeaten on 28 and 22 respectively, as Jono Cooper and James Crawford shared eight wickets.

There was another tight game at Ellergreen Park as Westgate were dismissed for 118, with Burneside’s Ben Leacock claiming 5-27.

The home side finished on 94-9, with David Batty striking 31 before James Ellwood and Steve Airey’s rearguard action secured a losing draw.

Elsewhere, Holme hit the summit of Division Two with a 71-run victory over Ingleton, while there were also wins for Moor Hospital, Coniston, Trimpell and Westgate.

Kirkby-in-Furness maintained their perfect start to top Division Three, while Netherfield continue to impress in the fourth tier as Morecambe, Trimpell and Burneside completed comfortable wins in the fifth.
