HACKNEY & Leigh cup glory awaits for either Shireshead or Milnthorpe when the duo go head-to-head in Sunday’s final at Bare.

The League’s premier cup competition is likely to draw huge crowds and both captains insist their team has what it takes to lift the trophy.

Lee Illingworth, captain of Milnthorpe, who currently sit third in Division One of the Westmorland Cricket League, said: “We're all really looking forward to the final as it has been too long since Milnthorpe first team won any silverware, and we aim to put that right on Sunday.

“It should be a great spectacle as there are several potential match winners on each side.

“Obviously Shireshead are having a tremendous season and are currently top of the league for a reason, but I'm sure they won't be taking anything for granted and we are all up for the challenge."

Meanwhile Paul Yates, skipper of table-topping Shireshead who won the competition last year, hopes his side can retain the title.

“We are looking forward to the final with great excitement,” he said.

“With so little of the season left and the club still challenging for two league titles plus two cup finals it's good times at Shireshead.

“The constant development of the youth within the club is not shown more than in an excellent third team whose senior players are nurturing the future of the club for years to come.

“As defending champions we are looking forward to reclaiming the premier league cup and as a club we would like to thank Derrick for his many years of sponsorship.”
