KENDAL Town's Ladies Development Team defeated Keswick 3-1 in the opening game of The Cumbria Women's League on Wednesday night.

All the goals were scored in the first half as Paula Beach bagged a brace while Daisy Purcell was also on target.

Kendal created chances from the start with debutant Danielle Crickett forcing Keswick keeper Angela Wray into action, while Beach fired the ball wide of the right hand post.

However Kendal opened the scoring when Beach finished from close range.

The goal led to a flurry of action, as Beach scored her second soon after with another good finish before Purcell made it 3-0 by placing the ball into the top corner of the net from distance.

Further chances from Beach and Crickett established Kendal's dominance. Keswick to their credit kept going as Rachel Jones forced Benson into a comfortable save before Jones fired a free kick over the bar.

The second half was disjointed, although Kendal were relatively comfortable considering it was a brand new team. However Keswick grew into the game, and pulled a goal back through Jones.

Kendal defended well and always looked a threat in possession, while Beach created numerous chances to score her hat trick while Crickett was also unfortunate not to score. However the whole team did well as Kendal registered their first win of the Cumbria Women's League.

Kendal are home to Islanders FC on Wednesday 12 April, with the game being played on Netherfield 3rd's pitch.
