Blackburn Rovers' Girls' Development Centre visited Kendal last weekend in an initiative to build links with local grass roots clubs, while also hosting a variety of training sessions for young girls within the area.

The event, held at Kendal United, proved to be a success with more than 75 young girls taking part from U10 to U14.

Blackburn's coaching team treated the aspiring players with a variety of different training drills, while they played a small football match to close out the sessions.

Girls' Technical Director Zuber Patel said: “Over the past few years we have had several success stories with girls from Cumbria progressing through Blackburn Rovers, and then going onto represent England.

"Players such as Georgia Stanaway, Kiera Walsh and Aimee Everett are just some of the success stories from the area. These training sessions were an opportunity for girls across Cumbria to get a flavour of working with the Blackburn Rovers coaching staff.

"Through the visit we also wanted to build a better understanding of the Girls' Player Pathway, as we feel it is important to support the girls' game as much as possible”

Blackburn Rovers will be holding open trials during the first two weeks in June, while they encourage all talented players to register for these trials.
