KESWICK edged three points clear at the top of the James Cropper Westmorland League Division One after a hard-fought 2-1 victory against a resurgent Ibis.

Keswick raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to first half goals by Sam Reilly and Richard Bannister. Chris Ellwood’s strike late into the second half made it a nervy finish before the hosts held out for the win.

Appleby remain Keswick’s nearest challengers following a difficult 2-1 win at Windermere. Antony Lund and Bobby Atkinson scored the crucial goals against a tough opponent.

Sedbergh Wanderers defeated Ambleside United 3-2 at Hilliard Park. Andrew Burrow, Dale Metcalfe and Dean Raw were all on the score sheet while Kirkoswald and Shap battled out an entertaining 4-4 draw.

In the High Sheriffs Cup, Penrith Reserves defeated Endmoor KGR 1-0 at Woodside Road.

Keswick Reserves eased past AFC Carlisle with a 6-0 win in Division Two, while Castletown United battled back from 4-2 down to defeat Eden Thistle 5-4. Jonny Murray scored four goals while Macauley Forsyth was also on target.

Staveley United picked up a dramatic 5-4 victory at Ullswater United, while both Greystoke and Braithwaite drew 1-1.

In the Junior Cup quarter finals, Carleton Banks eased into the next round following a comfortable 4-0 victory against Windermere Reserves. Aaron Newton scored twice, before goals by Corrie Pearson and a 25 yard screamer by Darren Wilson sealed the victory.

Dent booked their place in the semi final after a 4-0 win against Penrith Academy, while Burton Thistle defeated Appleby Reserve 2-0 in the other quarter final tie

Ibis Reserves moved three points clear at the top of Division Three following a 2-0 victory against Penrith Royal. Paul Bainbridge opened the scoring in the first half before Josh Ford sealed the points late into the second half.

In the other games, Kirkby Stephen beat Ambleside United Reserve 5-1, Lunesdale United won 8-3 at Langwathby United. Goals by Sam Wilson and Alec Hague edged Endmoor KGR Reserve to a narrow 2-1 win at Burneside, while Sedbergh Wanderers Reserve defeated Penrith Saints 4-1. Chris Ladds scored twice, before an own goal and a Robbie Alderson goal eased Sedbergh to victory.
