KENDAL Town slumped to a demoralising defeat away at Spennymoor, being reduced to 10 men before the floodgates opened.

Kicking off a minute after 3, it was Spennymoor who started with more purpose and soon took an early lead.

Nathan Fisher did well to dribble into Kendal's box, glide past two defenders and knock the ball past 'keeper Will Kitchen to make it 1-0 after seven minutes.

That woke Kendal up and the Mintcakes went in search of a goal of their own, and Aaron Helliwell duly delivered.

The midfielder initially shot wide after making a good run into the box, but he found the target on 17 minutes when he took advantage of a defensive error, intercepting the ball, running into the box and tapping it into the open goal.

Kendal looked like they would take the lead for the first time when Aaron Helliwell again managed to outrun the Moors defence and finding himself one-on-one with Dan Lowson in Spennymoor's goal, but his effort flew over the bar.

A series of Spennymoor corners in the run-up to half time proved fruitless for the hosts and the scores remained 1-1 at half time.

However, the home side wasted no time in restoring their lead after the break.

Fisher again managed to run into Kendal's goalmouth before he shot through a group of bodies to claim his second of the game on 48 minutes.

Just three minutes later Kendal found themselves 3-1 down after a 20 yard shot by Mark Anderson was blocked by Kitchen, but he could not gather the ball cleanly and this allowed Fisher to tap the ball into an open net for the rebound and his hat-trick.

Kendal quickly tried to get back into the game and Sam Bailey shot narrowly wide before he missed a header after a delightful ball into the box by Callum Hoctor.

But the Mintcakes found themselves in real trouble when midfielder Adam Freeland was given a straight red card, reducing Kendal to 10 men with 27 minutes still to play.

Freeland was immediately punished when Kallum Griffiths curled the resulting free-kick over the wall and beyond Kitchen to make it 4-1 to Spennymoor on 63 minutes.

Spennymoor got their fifth on 83 minutes when a low shot from 17 yards by Shane Henry thundered into the net.

Unfortunately for Kendal the rout was not complete and in the first minute of added time Fisher completed a great day at the office by scoring his fourth of the match.

He once again surged into the box and managed to beat Kitchen, tapping the ball low past the Mintcakes' stopper.

This result makes it three defeats in a row for Kendal, who have conceded 11 goals and scored just two of their own.
