Kendal Town surged to their first win of 2018 with an emphatic 5-1 victory against ten-man Ossett Albion at The ST&B Accountants Stadium.

Kendal, who were keen to avoid a sixth straight defeat, made a bad start when Adam Priestley headed the visitors in front after 23 minutes. However, Kendal equalised four minutes later when Charlie Bowman scored, before Ossett were reduced to ten man when Aidan Chippendale was sent off.

The hosts capitalised on the one man advantage during the second half as goals by Steven Yawson, Luke Jordan, Bowman and Danny McGahon sealed the win.

Kendal Town manager David Foster went with the same starting eleven that lost 2-0 Hyde United on Tuesday Night, while former Lancaster City defender Gavin Clark began on the substitute’s bench after signing for the Mintcakes on Thursday.

Both teams made a tentative start on a difficult playing surface, as the first fifteen minutes were battled out in midfield.

Ossett created the first opportunity of note after sixteen minutes when Chippendale fired a tame effort at Matthew Johnson in the Kendal goal.

The visitors continued to apply pressure while Stu Mc Donald cleared the ball away from the penalty area when Chippendale was ready to score from close range.

Ossett opened the scoring after 23 minutes when Scott Metcalfe's delivery into the box was headed into the net by Priestley.

Kendal equalised four minutes later when Yawson set up Bowman who headed the ball past Brett Souter in The Ossett goal.

The momentum changed three minutes before half time when Ossett were reduced to ten men, as a scuffle on the touch line saw referee Richard Aspinall brandish a straight red card to Chippendale.

Kendal upped the tempo during the second half with Yawson edging the Mintcakes in front in the 49th minute. Yawson who went clean through on goal placed the ball into the net.

From that point Kendal dominated and created chances through Bowman and Yawson, while Ossett struggled to get out of their own half.

Kendal made the game safe after 60 minutes when Morecambe loanee Luke Jordan scored from close range. Jordan did well to control the ball in the penalty area before firing into the bottom corner.

Bowman went on to score his second after 72 minutes before McGahon scored Kendal's 5th late on.

Kendal travel to Ramsbottom United on Saturday before hosting Atherton Collieries on Tuesday.
