Kendal Town continued their pre-season preparations with a comfortable 2-1 win over Morecambe’s under 18 Team at The Pye Motors Stadium on Tuesday Night.

The Mintcakes who had now won their fourth pre-season game in a row started on the front foot as they created the first opening after Josh Draycott prodded the ball wide of the right hand post in the second minute.

Town created many openings as Ollie Wood forced Morecambe keeper Niall Maher into a save after the lively attacking player was fed through into the box.

Wood continued to create the best openings as he blazed the ball over the bar, before he forced Niall Maher into action as the Morecambe keeper tipped the ball over for a corner.

Kendal made the breakthrough midway through the first half after the referee awarded a penalty when Ollie Wood was brought down in the box by The Morecambe Goalkeeper.

Wood had done well to get the penalty after he cut inside and worked his way through The Shrimps backline.

Kendal Captain Sam Bailey stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way as The Mintcakes went 1-0 infront.

In the second half, Kendal continued to play the game at a quick pace as they created further opportunities on goal. Josh Draycott the closest after his effort on goal was pushed away for a corner by The Morecambe Goalkeeper.

However Kendal made the game safe when former Morecambe player Charlie Bailey scored a stunning goal after he controlled the ball and worked his way through the Morecambe defence before he tapped the ball home past the keeper.

Bailey could have made it 3-0 as his chipped effort on goal went just over the bar, while they continued to probe the Shrimps backline.

Morecambe did get a goal back but only after Kendal had made several changes, The Shrimps capitalised when youngster Ben Fletcher chipped the ball over the keeper to score a good goal.

Kendal almost added a third in injury time when Charlie Bailey hit the post from close range after Curtis Hayley provided a pin point through ball across the penalty box. However the referee blew for full time as the Mintcakes ran out deserved winners.

Kendal play host to Workington on Saturday in what will be The Mintcakes last pre-season game before the season opener at Mossley on Saturday August 13.
