A THRILLING game saw South Lakes Men go down to a narrow 4-3 defeat in Division Two North of the North West League after their home game against Fylde 2nd XI survived the freezing weather.

In what was an end-to-end encounter, Fylde scored an early goal which was quickly cancelled out by Patrick Morris-Eyton, who squeezed the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs from close range following a fine pass from Lee Storey.

Fylde took the lead again though after a succession of short corners, but in almost a repeated move, Morris-Eyton found the second equaliser for Lakes and his fourth of the season by finding a gap between the keeper’s pads yet again.

South Lakes looked to have the better percentage of the pressure but a breakaway goal from Fylde right before the whistle saw them go into half-time 3-2 ahead.

But Lakes were rewarded for their second half pressure with another equalising goal as Anthony Salisbury finished an excellent team move to score for the third game in a row.

Fylde got a second wind and scored the final blow following another string of short corners that the Lakes’ defence was unable to survive.

South Lakes women’s match against Carlisle in Division Three North West of the North League was postponed despite the pitch at Ulverston Leisure Centre appearing to be playable.
