AMBLESIDE’S unbeaten run continued with a decisive 3-0 win over Penrith to lift them to second in the Cumbria Women’s Hockey League.

Early pressure paid off when Chelsea Daley finished off a Marge Munday free hit from just outside the D.

Penrith picked up their game and attacked the Ambleside D, resulting in a flurry of short corners. Superb running from Sheelagh Newell thwarted the strikes. Some clever positioning from Val Nicholls on the Ambleside line stopped a definite scoring chance for the visitors and Georgia Wilson, the young keeper, secured another clean sheet and the player's player.

Ambleside pushed up the tempo in the second half, but a string of chances went begging until Amanda Faulkner calmed the nerves with a cheeky strike to give AHC a 2-0 lead.

Ambleside pulled further clear when they were awarded a short corner, which Faulkner placed perfectly in the bottom left corner.

Five-nil victory.

for Kendal.

KENDAL played Ulverston in the Cumbria Women’s League on Sunday fielding a blend of youth and experience that proved to be a successful combination.

Kendal passed and moved well, attacking the Ulverston half so much the defence rarely touched the ball.

Attacking play from the wings forced the Ulverston defence into making errors that Kendal took advantage of as Sarah Brooks and Andrea Elvey scored in the first half.

Ulverston responded well after the break coming back into the game but Kendal scored goals through Louise Hartley and Louise Whiteley and a second goal from Elvey saw Kendal dominate the game, taking the score to 5-0.

Super junior performances came from Laura Braithwaite, Kristen Pearson and Catherine Selby.

Kendal play Wigan 2nds away in North West 2 on Saturday and Kirkby Lonsdale (Netherwood) and Keswick (Cumbria) on Sunday.
