Kendal Ladies 2 Preston Ladies 0 KENDAL took on Preston at home, but after a disagreement over the pitch and start time, the North Women’s 2 West fixture went ahead at Queen Katherine School.

In a physical fixture Preston tried their hardest to rattle the home team, who were frustrated not to have put away any of their numerous chances in a goalless first half.

Kendal sensibly kept to playing disciplined hockey in the second half but superb work from the Preston keeper thwarted them time and again.

It took renewed deter-mination from Kendal to gain the upper hand, passing and moving in what was a concerted team effort to break the deadlock.

Eventually Emma Taggart was in the right place to knock in Kendal’s overdue first goal at the far post. It lifted the whole side and they forced Preston into a series of errors until a lovely strike from Kendal’s player of the match Vicky Jones sealed a 2-0 victory.
