Lancaster Nomads 1.

Windermere Ladies 2.

HAVING played the Nomads the previous weekend in the Central Lancashire League, Windermere knew it was not going to be easy to repeat their 4-1 win and so it turned out to be.

Settling quickly, Windermere applied pressure with Helen Telford and Laura Howarth making incisive runs and sending penetrating balls into the D only for the Lancaster keeper to deny Katie Sanders and Fiona Inglis from converting.

Windermere eventually went ahead when Karen Tyson made a brilliant tackle at the top of her own defensive D and then ran the ball the full length of the pitch before slipping it to Helen Telford, whose perfectly angled raised shot beat the keeper.

Lancaster replied with a run of penalty corners from which a well-struck ball from the edge of the D gave them an equaliser before half time.

This gave the Nomads a boost and in a far more event second half,Windermeres’ keeper Rachel Roberts made some great saves.

Alison Spiby and Shona Taylor made some well-timed tackles and Phillipa Jones and Fiona Wood worked hard to get the ball up the pitch to keep Lancaster down to one goal.

However, the visitors never gave up and young Jess Taylor helped to create most of Windermere’s second- half attacks which finally led to them to a winning goal.

Helen Telford’s well-struck shot was well saved by thekeeper but fell to India Wood, who slotted it straight in for a 2-1 victory for Windermere.

This result has put Windermere in a promising second position behind Blackpool in the league table.
