Windermere.................. 5.

Clitheroe....................... 0.

WINDERMERE’S convin-cing 5-0 victory over Clitheroe guaranteed their promotion to Division 2 of the Central Lancs Ladies Hockey league last Saturday.

Captain Shona Taylor, who has worked tirelessly all year to field committed sides, was delighted with winning Division 3 in the team’s first season.

Although the hockey played was not up to its usual flowing style, Windermere still dominated and were kept down to a 2-0 lead at half -time by the Clitheroe goalkeeper. Both goals were excellently struck from the top of the D by left winger Helen Telford.

The second half saw a more focused home side. Karen Tyson and Jess McAvoy commanded the middle of the pitch, while incisive runs from forwards Fiona Inglis and Janette Gardner created lots of shots on target.

The three goals came in quick succession with the first by Jane Jackson, who followed up a rebound. Laura Howarth produced the fourth with a well-struck shot from a penalty corner and Heather Clough supplied the final goal with a well- placed finish past the keeper, her fourth in three matches.

Windermere’s next aim is to win their last three games and finish their season unbeaten. The players’ player award went to Fiona Inglis.
