TRAINER Nigel Twiston Davies, will be hoping to improve his already impressive strike rate at Cartmel with a double at Thursday’s Summer Barbecue meeting.

The Gold Cup and Grand National-winning trainer has two winners from his last six runners at the track and is particulary keen on Cool Touch in the Hadwins Beginners Chase (2.50pm).

He said: “Cool Touch is a bit a nutcase as he showed on his novice chase debut at Worcester last week when he was second to Black Jack Blues, but he does have ability and I think that Cartmel will suit him ideally.

“I am looking for a big run from him and my only regret is that unfortunately I won’t be able to be there to see him run as I love going to Cartmel."

Cool Touch will come up against Grand National-winning trainer Donald McCain's Dunowen Point, which makes his chasing debut after winning his maiden hurdle at Cartmel earlier this year.

And Twiston-Davies hopes of a double will fall to his son and jockey Sam Twiston-Davies when he rides Desolait in the Burlington Stone Handicap Hurdle at 5.10pm.
