IN the Kendal and District Table Tennis League, Burton B went top of Division Two following a hard fought 6-4 triumph over fellow promotion hopefuls Kirkby Stephen A.

Bryan Rhodes was man of the match with a hat-trick of victories over a strong Kirkby Stephen trio of Peter George, Andrew Leach and Jake Haygarth.

Leach produced a strong performance to defeat former Sheffield player Dennis Hooley, only his second defeat of the season, but was then defeated by Shelley Rhodes.

The clash of the two hitherto unbeaten teams in Division Two saw Natland D edge out Burton C 6-4. Howard Pimblett decided the outcome with three singles wins, including a nail biting 11-7, 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-6 victory over Martin Wakelin and then teaming up with Mick Taylor to take the doubles. Mike Gregory performed very well for Burton C vanquishing both Mick Taylor and Devun Whitehead. Division Two looks like being extremely competitive this season with 6 teams all capable of finishing in the top two.
