THERE was frustration all round for the teams from South Lakeland as The West Lancashire League returned from its Christmas break.

In Division One, Kendal County lost 5-3 to Croston Sports at Parkside Road.

Kendal were 2-0 up within the first nine minutes following goals by Bailey Carlos and Connor Walmsley.

But Croston battled back and were 3-2 up at half time after a brace by Dom Case and a goal from Daniel Jeffery.

Jeffery scored his second on 63 minutes as the visitors went 4-2 up, before Kendal edged back into the game when Ryan Close scored.

However, their efforts proved to be in vain as Matthew Golder's goal deep into stoppage time secured the points for Croston who continued to climb up the table.

Milnthorpe Corinthians were held to a 0-0 draw against Hawcoat Park while Kendal United lost 4-3 to Mill Hill St Peters in Division Two.

Kendal were 2-0 up thanks to goals from David Crierie and Dillon Hine, but the Blackburn side pulled a goal back through Harris Tomlinson.

And Tomlinson equalised for the visitors 10 minutes into the second half before Crierie restored the lead for United on 83 minutes with what looked likely to be the winner.

However the game suddenly and belatedly turned in the visitors' favour when a home player was sent off and two goals in two minutes from Christian Holt and John Turner secured the win for the visitors.

There was some light in the gloom as Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves won 3-2 at Thornton Cleveleys A with Charlie Morton, Chris Harper and James Parkinson on the scoresheet.

Kendal County also defeated Burneside in a friendly on New Year’s Eve with Bailey Carlos on the score sheet.

Action from the game is pictured left and right.

The game, which was played at Kendal RUFC's 4G surface, saw both teams field relatively strong squads with several Kendal first teamers making an appearance.

The fixture list is now back in full swing and on Saturday, Kendal County host Eagley in Division One.

The quarter finals of the Benevolent Trophy are also taking place, with Milnthorpe hosting Appleby while holders Kendal United entertain Keswick at Castle Drive in what is the repeat of last season's final.

In the West Lancashire Reserve Division Two, Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves travel to play Lostock St Gerards A Team,

Kendal United and Milnthorpe's cup games kick off at 1.30pm while the other games start at the normal time of 2pm.
