A CREDITABLE home league campaign closed for Kendal RUFC's colts this week with a 39-17 victory over a spirited Eccles side at Mint Bridge.

The visitors are struggling at the wrong end of the table but they certainly caused problems for a Kendal team who have had an impressive league season.

Indeed it was the visitors who opened the scoring on four minutes when they crashed over following good work by the forwards.

But the home side battled back and were level soon afterwards thanks to a try by Joshua Woodward.

And once Kendal had levelled, they began to dominate.

Samuel Coleman edged the hosts in front with a try near the posts and converted it himself put his side 12-5 ahead.

However, Eccles battled back and managed to level the scores as Kendal began to mistakes and invite the visitors into the game.

But the Mint Bridge did not take long to regain control and a good try by Jim O'Reilly on 32 minutes, which was not converted, made the half time score 17-12.

And in the second half, Kendal pulled away from the visitors thanks to tries from Alex Ryder, Owen Mayer and Liam Gudgeon, Coleman converting one of the scores to make it 29-12.

Eccles to their credit continued to battle and scored a late try before Kendal rounded things off with another try late.

Kendal travel to play Makos on Sunday before closing their league campaign with an away game at Preston Grasshoppers on Sunday, February 9.
