FIVE tries from Hayley Hodgson were among the highlights as Kendal Wasps closed their season in style against Hartlepool Rovers.

The Wasps were in rampant mood as they ran out convincing 46-22 winners.

The home game, which took place on the 3G facility at Kendal Rugby Club, was an eventful encounter.

Hodgson was in imperious form against a resilient and talented Hartlepool team as Kendal racked up an impressive score.

The hosts made a dominant start and were 12-0 up within the first 10 minutes, after tries from Suzie Winter and Miriam Fuller, while Tamar Benson converted Kendal’s opening try of the game.

Hartlepool found a way back soon after when an attack down the left hand side saw them go over the try line.

Nevertheless, Hodgson extended Kendal’s lead after she outpaced the visiting defence, while Benson’s conversion saw the Wasps go further ahead.

Hartlepool kept going and stayed with Kendal after they scored another try, but the Wasps were able to keep the visitors at bay after Hodgson scored her second try of the afternoon.

While the visitors went over the whitewash again, further efforts from Hodgson and Rowan Boardley saw Kendal hold a comfortable lead at the half way stage of the game.

The hosts controlled the second half with Hodgson scoring two more tries to complete her impressive five-try haul.

And The Wasps continued to impress with Suzie Winter scoring her second try of the afternoon, as Kendal ran out convincing winners against a Hartlepool team who also contributed to what was a good game of rugby. It was a positive way to end the season for the Wasps’ players.
