ALASTAIR Holgate produced a fine all-round performance as Salesbury seconds secured the Ribblesdale League's Lawrenson Cup.

A packed Ribchester Road saw David Moss's side produce a fine display with the ball before coasting home with almost ten overs to spare, sparking joyous scenes amongst players and spectators.

Both Salesbury and Barnoldswick had been knocked out in their first matches last year but they turned the tables in 2015 to set up this final.

It was Salesbury who won the toss and put Paul Beech's side in and the first wicket was down with the score on 14.

Macauley Cunningham was still on 0 when he was caught behind by Tom Stones off the bowling of Ashley Marsh, and Stones repeated the trick with the score on 36, taking a catch off Holgate's bowling to get rid of Nathan Taylforth.

Barlick looked to be steadying the ship when they reached 56-2 but they lost two quick wickets, with Beech and opener Shaukat Sheraz both dismissed LBW to Marsh.

It was Marsh and Holgate who were doing the damage with the ball, and the latter returned to pick up Luke Scothern and David Scothern to reduce Barnoldswick to 84-6.

Jonathan Beech had made nine before he was brilliantly run out by Oli Whetton from the boundary, before Stones took a catch off Peter Blackman's bowling to get rid of Adil Khan and Blackman then turned catcher off Jack Stones to dismiss Joshua Nunn.

At 119-9 Barnoldswick looked in serious trouble but numbers 10 and 11, Josh Butler (17*) and Richard Green (13*), added 30 to make sure the visitors saw out their 50 overs, posting 149-9.

Salesbury got off to a nervy start with Jonathan Sedgley out for 1 to leave them 7-1, before Barry Spencer (23) and David Moss (17) fell in quick succession to leave the home side 49-3 with still 101 needed.

But man of the match Holgate joined Blackman at the wicket and the two added exactly 100 to move Salesbury within a run of victory, although Barnoldswick dropped a chance off Holgate with the score on 82.

He had made 52 off 74 balls, with 44 of them coming in boundaries, before he tried to hit the winning runs with the scores level and holed out to David Scothern off Luke's bowling.

Simon Williams came in but he didn't face a ball and Blackman moved on to an unbeaten 36 to secure victory for Salesbury.
