Onlookers could only stand and stare after a gale blew out two large windows of Burton’s on the corner of Deansgate and Market Street in Bolton.
The plate glass windows were shattered with shards left littering the pavement following the gale in April 1935. Pedestrians were kept on the opposite pavement as there were fears a third window might shatter and the shopfront had to be inspected for further structural damage.
Motorists too were encouraged to avoid driving past the shop until a clear-up operation could be completed.
