CLARINETTIST Jack Horrocks was once again successful in reaching the final of the prestigious Keldwyth Cumbrian Young Musicians Award. The 21-year-old Royal College of Music student from Milnthorpe will be joined by Penrith pianist Wyn Chan (22), a student at the Royal Northern College, fellow student, soprano, Daisy Ball (20) of Colton and violinist Monika Davies (16) who is a student at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Penrith. The gifted foursome emerged victorious from a strong field of 14 musicians in a closely-fought contest at Kendal Town Hall. A new award for the best newcomer of £100 (although will not appear in the final) was made to singer Sapphire Kieft, a student at The Lakes School.
The final will be be held on Friday, August 31 (7.30pm) at the Victoria Hall, Grange-over-Sands.
