NATALIE Burn's 100 Squares exhibition is running at The Old Courthouse, Shap.
The Whitehaven-based artist and poet takes much of her inspiration from her love of the outdoors where she spent most of her childhood walking, climbing and orienteering. Her 100 Squares are collage pieces created using a wide variety of paper-based materials. Natalie is a keen diarist and collectively the squares provide a 'diary' of key events and personal experiences relating to entries in her 2017 journal. The themes for the pieces are diverse and reflect her love of colour, shape, mathematics, travel, art and the natural world.
During the course of the exhibition some of the work will be replaced by art created by Natalie and other artists working with groups in the community. In addition to spending two days working with pupils at Shap C of E Primary School Natalie will be holding a free drop-in session at The Old Courthouse on Sunday (May 19) from 11am-4pm. Anyone who would like to attend is asked to take along items suitable for cutting up and collage work that is either personal to them or relates in some way to Shap and the local area. The exhibition runs until Sunday, June 9. For further information and opening times visit www.theoldcourthouse.org.
