MORECAMBE is not necessarily a place which springs to mind when planning to go out for a nice meal.
The resort is not a destination on the culinary map but Blue Mountain, on Marine Road East, is a restaurant which leaves the diner wanting to go back for more.
From the exterior, there is nothing particularly special about the Blue Mountain – except that it has fabulous views over Morecambe Bay – but once inside that perception soon changes.
And with a good menu selection – which is mostly locally produced – and generous portions, diners at The Blue Mountain can be assured of leaving the restaurant extremely full and satisfied.
Customers are given a friendly greeting at the front of the house and made to feel instantly at home in the small, but relaxed, friendly restaurant.
It takes time to choose from the mouth-watering menu – but diners are not rushed into a quick order. Choosing a starter, main course, dessert and wine to compliment each other is easy given the array of foods and wines to offer on the menu.
For a starter, I ordered garlic mushrooms in a cream sauce, which also came with two slices of home-made garlic bread.
The mushrooms were large and very tasty and the cream sauce was a refreshing change to many restaurants which serve them with a garlic butter.
The garlic bread and garlic mushrooms were a good combination which in many restaurants would have to be ordered separately.
I decided on a fresh fish and chose fresh salmon with a prawn and cream sauce – there is a good selection of fresh fish on the menu, as well as chicken and steaks all served with a variety of different sauces.
It was a large portion and I particularly liked the fact that vegetables came in a Lazy Susan and were left on the table along with a bowl of chips and garlic mash potato.
The food when it arrived was piping hot and tasted extremely fresh and excellent value for money.
It is truly a fantastic restaurant, with mouth-watering food and excellent service.
