LEVENS Choir is in action at Cartmel Priory on Saturday, October 19 (7.30pm), accompaniend by Adrian Self on piano, and Doug Dawson on timpani and bass drum. The chorus will be joined by four soloists - Felicity Howard, Claire Eadington, Peter Smith and Ron Eadington. Meanwhile, conductor Ian Jones and his mighty choristers are preparing for their November 22 concert at Kendal’s St Thomas’s Church, marking the centenary of Benjamin Britten's birth, with a performance of his Christ’s Nativity, a cycle of five poems on the Christmas theme. The concert with also include shorter works by Britten and four songs for double choir by Robert Schumann, a composer who Britten much admired. The choir will be joined by Jeremy Lamburn (cello) and Paul Greenhalgh (piano) in Britten’s Cello Sonata and Schumann’s Fantasy Pieces.
