SISTER Act needs little introduction.

A funky, mega hit movie from 1992 starring the equally popular and funky actress Whoopi Goldberg, its tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder.

The stage musical version is this year's Kendal Amateur Operatic Society spectacular.

So far, the musical has been seen by more than six million people across the planet and it promises to be the perfect vehicle for the talented sisters and brothers of KAOS.

The hilarious, feelgood musical is packed with dazzling dance routines choreographed by highly thought of Barrow-based director Graham Barker and songs inspired by Motown, soul and disco; real toe tapping, irresistible tunes brought to life by esteemed musical director John Perrin.

The story goes like this: Deloris is hidden for her own protection in the one place she won’t be found - a convent. Under the reluctant watch of Mother Superior, Deloris is disguised as a nun and helps her fellow sisters find their voices, as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. An altogether sparkling tribute to the universal power of sisterhood and music.

Taking the demanding lead role of Deloris is another Barrovian Karen Barker, who has played umpteen parts for KAOS during recent times.

Alison Hine plays the part of Mother Superior, whose not best pleased to have such a 'progressive' thinking nun as Deloris in her midst. Also in the KAOS spotlight are regulars Kate Vernon and Juliette Beston as Sisters Mary Lazarus and Mary Patrick and Hannah McKee takes one of her first principal parts as the young postulant Sister Mary Robert.

Jim Thompson is in the guise of convent priest Monsignor O’Hara with Bob Christie playing Curtis, the gangster who is trying to kill Deloris; Chris Barker is Eddie, her policeman protector. The cast also includes society newcomers Andrew Hawkins, Billy Elliot and Dan Hulme, who play Curtis’s gangster sidekicks with hilarious results.
