There’s a chance to relive the golden decade of pop later this month with six legendary names of the 60s.

Starring Mike Pender (original voice of The Searchers) Chris Farlowe, Herman’s Hermits, The Swinging Blue Jeans, New Amen Corner and The Fourmost, The Sensational 60s Experience promises three hours of pure nostalgia.

Hits include Needles and Pins, Out Of Time, I’m Into Something Good, Hippy Hippy Shake, Bend Me Shape Me, A Little Lovin and more.

Mike Pender formed the Searchers after seeing Buddy Holly play in Liverpool in 1958.

He was just 17 and his first band had collapsed after their amplifiers were stolen.

“I was wondering what to do next and I saw Buddy and he inspired me” says Mike, some 60 years later.

They went on to record a string of hits such as Sweets for My Sweet, Sugar and Spice, Needles and Pins and When You Walk in the Room and enjoy huge worldwide success.

They played the Ed Sullivan Show in New York in 1965 and also headlined Madison Square Gardens. Later this month Mike will be playing The Sands Centre in Carlisle.

Mike still has sharp memories of playing the Star Club in Hamburg in the early Sixties alongside The Beatles and meeting giants of Rock ‘n’ roll such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino and Ray Charles, admitting: “I was shaking when I met him.”

The hits of The Searchers still mean a lot to many people today. Mike still gets royalty cheques worth thousands of pounds from his tunes being played around the world.

He doesn’t need to keep playing and touring, but he loves it: “I will keep going as long as I can. It is great to meet people and talk about the songs and the old days.”
