A LITTLE bit of Broadway is coming to the Brewery next week in an ambitious all-singing, all-dancing show.

Running at the Kendal arts centre from Wednesday until Saturday, June 12-15, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is the Kendal College annual spectacular, which has all the hallmarks of another fabulous piece of entertainment put together by Hilary Pezet's talented team.

With a definite Mad Men early 1960s vibe to the show, it’s an irreverent romp packed with sly, swift, and sharp jabs to the funny bone, fantastic dancing from a skilled, large cast and a show that will have the audience humming along to the catchy tunes.

Hilary, head of The Arts and Media at the college, says the show stars 52 performers, Fosse choreography with a measure of tap and musical theatre for added complications: "This has to be the most challenging show from Kendal College to date," adds Hilary. "Not only is the performance going to stretch the performers but also the large technical team as the show has a massive set of an office in the 1960s that moves and office desks that are like magic boxes that fold out to be something else.

"As well as that we are continuing to explore the use of projections, a characteristic of our Brewery shows, and seeing how far we can play with this technology.

"As always our productions are operated as a professional company with students running the whole show. I'm just not sure how we will all fit into the tiny dressing rooms at the Brewery."

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is a comic gem that took Broadway by storm, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize. Critic Walter Kerr described the show as "sneaky, cynical, irreverent, Impertinent, sly, malicious, and lovely, just lovely."

The show's stand out score by Frank Loesser (of Guys and Dolls fame) includes classics such as I Believe in You, Coffee Break, Brotherhood of Man and The Company Way.

And so to the story: big business means big laughs in the delightfully clever musical of life on the corporate ladder. Centre stage is J. Pierrepont Finch, who rises from an ambitious window washer to high powered executive, tackling such dangers as backstabbing colleagues, office parties, caffeine addiction and, of course, true love.

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is a story about the triumph of the common man amid the buffoonery of big business.

Performances start at 7.30pm with a 1pm matinee on the Saturday.
