AS FAR as creative writing in schools is concerned there’s plenty of untapped talent - and I don’t just mean the students.

I know that Chris Leeming, deputy head over at Ingleton Middle School, often pens a really good production for his students, and last year Queen Katherine School’s Keith Barber created a successful piece for his students with Lager The Life.

No doubt there’s many more out there too bashing away at their keyboards.

Following in Keith footsteps at Kendal’s QKS, are his colleagues, drama teacher, Jonathan Linaker, and IT manager, Jarrod Collings.

After the success of directing last year’s spoof Superhero production, Jonathan and Jarrod have taken it upon themselves to write this year’s play from scratch.

Once again they’ve gone for a spoof, this time around based on Bram Stoker’s original tale of Dracula.

The two scribes have come up with Stan Roper's Dracula for a keystage three production, running at QKS from next Thursday, January 22, until Saturday, January 24 (7.30pm).

In their version Stan Roper, a resident of Kendal, is unable to book his usual week in the sun in Benidorm, and instead chooses to spend some downtime at a new resort in Transylvania-del-Sol; Castle A La Crud (a fairly terrible anagram of Dracula). The Dark Lord has grown short of victims, and fresh blood is scarce, so he had decided to turn the castle into a tourist destination to increase his nutritional opportunities.

Little does he know that one of Van Helsing’s ancestors who hails from Finland - Dan Helsinki - is on his trail, and is on his way to the castle to try to rid the world of the Count once and for all...

Tickets are available from QKS reception.

Adults are £5/ concessions £3.
