Kendal won by 67 runs

TWP Wealth Twenty20 Cup

KENDAL picked up their first competitive win of the 2013 season when they beat Barrow in a good all-round performance.

Kendal posted 175-2 in an impressive first innings, with opener Ryan Nelson showing his class by hitting four fours and a six on his way to 70.

Darren Moore scored 33 from 21 balls before he was caught by Michael Wellings off Greg Reynolds in the eighth over, but pro Alex Doolan was in superb form as he struck an unbeaten 56 from just 36 balls to give his side a commanding total.

In the penultimate over Nelson was caught by Nicky Burns off Daryl Wearing, but Kendal had done the damage by this point.

In reply all five bowlers chipped in with at least one wicket as they set about teh Barrow line-up.

Stu Parkin claimed the wickets of openers Wellings and Wearing for two and 21 respectively when Moore and Sam Dyson caught them off his bowling to leave Barrow 33-2 in the sixth over.

Then Kendal’s bowling really turned the home side over when they dismissed six wickets in three overs.

Firstly Chris Miller got Burns out for 20 in the 10th over to begin the collapse when the batter was caught behind by wicketkeeper Gary Baker.

Sam Dyson got in on the act by getting Ryan Brown out for 14 following a catch by Parkin, before Sam Dutton was run out by Nick Lewthwaite, who picked up his three wickets from his last over in the first, second and fifth balls of the 12th over.

At 70-8 and chasing another 106 runs to win with eight overs left, the final partnership of an unbroken 28 between number nine Tom Milligan (22 not out) and Gary Collins (10 not out) was the best of the lot for Barrow, leaving them 108-9 at the end of their allotted overs.

Kendal 139

Lancaster 140-7

Lancaster won by three wickets

Chorley Building Society Northern Premier League

A SUPERB bowling performance from Liam Moffatt and a great knock of 64 by Ashar Zaidi was enough for Lancaster to get past Kendal at Shap Road, consigning the Cumbrians to yet another defeat.

The day started horrendously for Kendal when Darren Moore was bowled second ball by Liam Moffatt, before pro Alex Doolan was also dismissed for a duck to leave the home side 2-2 in the third over.

Darren Nelson put in an accomplished performance while those around him fell to earn his side 49 runs, but he wasn’t given the best support as Jack White and Terry Hunte could only manage 12 runs each, with Darren Braithwaite notching up just one and Gary Baker run out on three.

Nelson and Nick Lewthwaite put on a stand of 38 but when Nelson was bowled by Moffatt in the 38th over, Kendal were 112-7 and struggling.

Lewthwaite went on to score 42, striking five fours in the process, but he was caught by Charlie Swarbrick off Moffatt with four overs left to put Kendal 136-9, and just three more runs were added before the home side were all out for 139.

It was slow progress for Lancaster in reply, with Jack White picking up five maidens from his first six overs and Stu Parkin keeping in tight.

The visitors were scoring marginally over two runs an over before Alex Metcalfe was trapped LBW by Chris Miller for five in the 13th over, and three overs later former Kendal batter Jamie Heywood was run out for one.

Lewthwaite then got in on the act as Lancaster slumped to 44-5, with Lewthwaite 3-2 from his five overs.

But that was the only time Lewthwaite bowled and sub-pro Zaidi scored seven fours and one maximum on his way to 64, with Danny Welbourne (18) and Joe Atkinson (18 not out) providing a great foil as Lancaster solidified their innings.

Zaidi was caught by Doolan off Miller for 64 in the 48th over to leave Lancaster 133-7, but Ben Simm came in and got the required runs with Atkinson to give Lancaster a three-wicket win.
