ANOTHER round of Cumbria age group competitions at Kendal saw Ulverston swimmers collect another glut of winner's badges and contribute to some exciting races.

Again it was the friendly rivalry of Otters club mates Eden-Joy Light and Rebecca Fell that took the eye.

The 50m breaststroke sprints brought them together in their first final and over the two lengths they displayed great skill and technique with little between them. It was only in the last few metres that Fell did just enough to hold off Light for the win.

However the 50m backstroke saw Light come into her own and use all her skill brilliantly to turn the tables on Fell and snatch victory.

The 200m backstroke produced another great result for these two who dominate their age group. Over the longer distance it was Fell who returned to winning ways and in a storming finish she just kept off Light’s challenge to take first place.

Fell then took on the gruelling 400m individual medley and showing all her skill and outstanding talent, she burned off the opposition and drove to the finish to record another superb win.

The 50m backstroke events saw more wins come the Otters way, starting with probably the finest result of the gala when Nicola Capstick, Georgina Milburn and Anya Sharp contested the 11-year-old final.

Off to a flying start, all three dominated the race with Capstick setting herself on the front with a furious tempo. Not deterred, Milburn and Sharp kept up the challenge. It came down to the pressure zone where Capstick found that little extra to bring them home with a brilliant trio of badges.

Two more winners emerged from this event with Zania Wilson and Victoria Hevey taking the honours in style.

Runners up Badges went to Amy Richardson, Taylor Aplin, Alix Knagg, Georgia Hevey and Tom Robinson.

The 200m backstroke also gave Georgie Hevey and Richardson well-earned wins and place awards for Wilson, Knagg, Capstick, Sharp, Aplin and Holly Parkinson.

The 50m breaststroke produced brilliant wins for Rhiannon Ellis and Scott Munro-Bennett with both taking early leads, setting a steady tempo and timing their finishes perfectly.

Austin Wilson just got the edge on Bennett to take a win at 100m freestyle, while more minor place badges went to Zack Lewis-Morgan (breaststroke), Robinson (freestyle) and Samantha Blundell (breaststroke) to complete the club’s greatest haul to date.
