GEORGE Gudgeon has been announced as the new man at the helm of Ambleside United for next season.

Gudgeon is well known for funding the CDS development football development centre for male and female players aged under 11 and under 21, and he will take charge of the West Lancashire First Division team with immediate effect.

Gudgeon says his main aim is to continue the previous good work which led the club to Division One of the West Lancs league, and he hopes the attraction of playing in one of the highest leagues in the area will appeal to local players.

After listening to the committee’s belief in youth and development, it made an easy decision for him.

“I’m feeling very positive and they’re big into developing youth players which is exactly what I wanted to hear,” said Gudgeon.

“There are talented young players in the area. I’m bringing a lot of new players in so we’ll take it from there.”

Secretary Rob Hunt welcomed the appointment of Gudgeon and his footballing philosophy, adding that he looks forward to a period of stability and future progression for the club.

Pre-season training at Ambleside United starts today (Thursday, June 13) at 6.30pm at the clubhouse.
