A MOUNTAIN biker was left fighting for his life after suffering serious injuries in an accident in the Lake District.

The 28-year-old Carlisle man was injured on Honister Pass at Buttermere at around 3.45pm on Saturday.

A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance said the rider sustained severe head and chest injuries and was anaesthetised by an onboard doctor at the roadside.

He was then flown to a specialist treatment centre at the Royal Preston Hospital where his condition was said to be ‘critical’ on arrival.

The spokesman added: “We wish him a speedy recovery.”
