BASEMENT Jaxx turned Kendal Calling into a carnival when thousands of revellers witnessed their performance last night (Friday).

They drew the biggest crowd of the festival so far as they played tracks such as Where's Your Head At?, Red Alert and Rendezvous.

The dance collective hit the main stage after an awe-inspiring performance by the greatest hip hop act of all time, Public Enemy.

Chuck D and Flavor Flav - complete with his infamous clock medallion - were clearly enjoying themselves in the fields of Lowther Deer Park, belting out hits such as Bring The Noise and Don't Believe The Hype.

Elsewhere on the site, Theme Park turned the Calling Out stage into a party, impressing fans with their collective musical and singing ability as they swapped instruments and reached notes so high they would make Mariah Carey jealous.

The highlight of the House Party tent was headliner Justin Robertson, of dub-dance pioneers Lionrock, whose seamless mixing and choice of tunes was outstanding.

Today (Saturday) will see the Tim Peaks Diner taken over by The Academy, a collaboration between the festival organisers and University of Cumbria, which will feature talks and demonstrations on all things music and media by experts such as NME photographer Dean Chalkley.

The Charlatans headline the Main Stage later after sets by Ash and I Am Kloot, while Kendal heroes British Sea Power will play what promises to be a euphoric 'homecoming' slot in the Calling Out stage.
