INDIE heroes Ash have told The Westmorland Gazette of their affection for Kendal Calling ahead of their main stage set at 6pm.

The Northern Irish rockers will perform a set filled with greatest hits and fan favourites such as Girl From Mars and Walking Barefoot.

And bassist Mark Hamilton said: "We headlined the main stage here four years ago and we had a great time.

"It was a great crowd and we were really impressed by the organisation of the whole festival. When we were asked to come back we were like, 'definitely'."

Mark said he loved the Lakes, having holidayed here with family as child, and would like to explore it further one day.

"We travelled up from Manchester this afternoon and really enjoyed the drive."

Ash will be followed on the main stage by I Am Kloot before The Charlatans headline.

Acts from across Cumbria are playing over the weekend, with the core of them showcasing their sound in the scenic Woodlands area.

Kendal's The Feud perform later, while local acts such as Gritty Britain, Jakarta Club, Birds vs Planes and Morecambe's The Heartbreaks have all featured.
