POLICE are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a man was stabbed in the north of the county on New Year's Day.
Paramedics and police attended an address on Raffles Avenue, Carlisle, shortly after 4am following reports of an incident.
A 23-year-old local man was treated at the scene for his injuries before being taken to Cumberland Infirmary, where he was operated on. His condition is now described as ‘stable’.
Detective Chief Inspector Lesley Hanson said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who was at the party, or who may have any relevant information, to come forward and speak to us in confidence.
“Crimes like this are thankfully rare in Cumbria, and this was an isolated incident."
Anybody with information should contact police on 101.
