KENDAL’S Westmorland Shopping Centre was transformed into the ultimate music venue for a day on Saturday for the area’s first Big Gig event.
The gig was one of 150 free community events held across the country over the weekend, with a total of 7,000 musicians and 2,000 volunteers helping to host gigs for others in their community to enjoy.
Kendal’s event was sponsored by Westmorland Shopping and organised by Creative Arts with Creative Support and Jump into Kendal.
Around 1,500 people flocked to the shopping centre to see local acts including Sean Moore, Steve Warton, Bill Lloyd and Gritty Britain.
The event also featured art workshops by Creative Arts, an awareness workshop by mental health charity Growing Voices, a photography exhibition in the former Evans shop unit and stalls for local businesses selling arts, crafts and jewellery.
