LANDOWNERS will be required to control grey squirrels on their land in order to be eligible for government funds, as part of a national plan.
An action plan published by the Forestry Commission says that a 'grey squirrel management prescription' will be included in the agreement for woodland management in the Countryside Stewardship scheme.
The move is designed to protect the red squirrel population and 'reduce the greys' impact on woodlands.
