TWO Army Cadets from Kendal both competed in the Army Cadet Force (ACF) National Cross-Country Championships at Warcop Defence Training Estate.

Cadet Corporal Connor Barker and Cadet Lance Corporal Hugh Law were part of the Senior Boys team representing the North-West and competed in the 7.5Km race, which was open to Army Cadets from all over the country.

Cadet Corporal Barker, who completed in this race last year, ran the race of his life to come second nationally. “I was very proud to come second in this competition - the standard of runners was incredibly high," he said.

"I have been training very hard for this event and I am so pleased to have got this far.”

Cadet Corporal Law, who came seventh in the race, agreed. “It is a challenging course and although I hurt my ankle on the way, I was determined to finish.”

Colonel Anthony Steven, Commandant of Cumbria ACF, said “It is fantastic seeing our cadets come here and run their hearts out against a very challenging opposition. The North-West team as a whole did very well to come third nationally, again against extremely strong runners from other parts of the UK.”

Cumbria ACF provided the adult volunteers and permanent staff to supervise and manage the annual event, which is one of the highlights of the ACF sporting calendar.

“My volunteers and permanent staff did an excellent job of organising this event and showed Cumbria ACF as a dedicated and professional county," he said.
