SOME members of the Rotary Club of Lunesdale stood outside Booths store in Kirkby Lonsdale on Saturday with collection buckets appealing for donations to help send aid to the Nepalese people affected by the devastating earthquake.
There were collection buckets inside the store and all money raised will be used to buy survival boxes containing water purification equipment, enough to treat ten litres of water per person every day. They will provide for a family of five for 12 months.
The boxes also contain feeding and drinking implements, health and hygiene items, shelter and survival tools, general household basic necessities plus pencils, notepad and three waterproof ponchos.
The collection raised £1,320 with some people putting coins into the collection telling Rotarians that they had already made a donation on-line.
Other Rotary Clubs in 1190 district are busily involved in many different ways to assist the aid programme for the victims of the disaster which has claimed more than 7,000 lives.
