STAFF from Carnforth's Tesco store responded to customer complaints about rubbish around the town and organised a successful litter pick.
Eight workers were joined by the new mayor of Carnforth, Cllr Malcolm Watkins, and the town clerk, Philip Charnley, for the clean up which covered a large circular area around the store and two miles of the Lancaster Canal. Also joining in were the 'community champions' from stores in Barrow, Carlisle and Whitehaven. They managed to fill six large bags of rubbish.
Organiser Leanne Atkinson, who is community champion at the Carnforth store, said: "We have had quite a few complaints from customers about litter around the store and round the town in general.
"I decided that we needed to do something about it. It is something that we will be doing on a more regular basis."
