AN AVIATION company has unveiled dramatic plans to start running seaplane flights from London to the Lake District.

Greece-based AirSea Lines, which already runs services in the Mediterranean, has announced that it is considering expanding its operations to the UK.

The company has identified North Wales and the Lake District as relatively inaccessible parts of Britain, from where it hopes to run flights to and from London.

Last year the company landed one of its aircraft on the Thames, where it hopes to form a base.

Walter Stark, AirSea Lines UK-based vice president, stressed that the project was at "a very preliminary stage".

He said that in depth consultation with key organisations such as local authorities and the Lake District National Park Authority would be required before the flights got off the ground.

But Mr Stark said he hoped that if all went to plan, the flights could be operating as early as summer 2008, with a place on one of the 19-seat planes costing around £120.
