COMMUNITY groups across Cumbria are being urged to come forward and take advantage of funding made available under the Landfill Communities Fund and distributed by Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd (WREN).
WREN was founded nearly ten years ago and has been responsible for distributing almost £100 million to 4,000 needy projects across the UK.
The landfill tax credits it distributes are provided by the landfill operator Waste Recycling Group Ltd which works with several authorities and handles 13 million tonnes of household, commercial and industrial waste each year.
WREN is able to use a proportion of the landfill tax to fund projects that improve the environment within ten miles of a landfill site.
Recipients of the organisation's grants vary widely from small community groups looking to build a village hall, to larger organisations such as The Woodland Trust and the RSPB.
For further information on applying for funding from WREN call 01953-717165 or visit www.wren.org.uk .
