WE may be leaving summer behind but there's still time to embrace that more commonly irritating in between-season weather.

Adjusting your wardrobe in the changing climates is never an easy thing to do so anything that can make that transition any smoother is an essential.

As well as thicker denim shirts and on-trend cashmere (or cashmere-style if you're on a budget) round necks and polos which I covered last week, this year the move into autumn is being aided by the ever-growing popular sleeveless jacket.

Why haven't we thought of this before!?

I mean, yes, we have gilets and they play their practical-meets fashion part.

But this new waistcoat-coat hybrid is, in hindsight, an obvious trick we have thus far missed.

Already having taken to the stage this year in the form of loose cascading cardis, we are more-or-less acquainted with this kind of sleeveless garb.

And with winter howling its way ever closer, the sleeveless jacket is soon set to become our new wardrobe staple.

Endorsed by those across the global celebrity spectrum including the likes of Rita Ora, Victoria Beckham and Olivia Palerma, who are we to question this new fashion arrival?

As with the diversity of coats and jackets in the fashion world, choosing the right slashed sleeve look isn't easy.

First of all, decide what your overall look is.

If you need to be smart for work, opt for a sleeveless duster coat (or in layman's terms, basically a long suit-jacket with lapels).

Topshop (which incidentally at the moment has a designated sleeveless section categorised by blazers, jackets, kimonos and coats) has the perfect office-ready khaki duster coat at £24.99.

Match with a long-sleeved black, high necked jumper and a pair of black chinos statement pumps for a sleek look.

If you're off for drinks after work, swap the trousers for a high waisted black A-line skirt and delicate heels.

Or wrap up with New Look's double breasted camel coat at £34.99.

Team with a thin white jumper, skinny jeans and tan jodhpurs ankle boots.
