Primestock

Spring lambs - A very disappointing number of prime lambs forward today, many more could have been sold as trade was better than expected and vendors leaving pleased with their trade. More needed next week at Lancaster to fulfil the buyers’ requirements.

Once again lambs of all sizes that were well fleshed were good too sell and eagerly bid for with lambs lacking finished penalized.

A market average of 143ppk with Sqq averaging 144ppk.

A lot of heavy lambs in the market with standard weights between 40kg and 42kg short of requirements. Lambs twice sold to a top of £74.50 with heavy weight lambs from j & r waller of hallbeck and c & b lowther of lower castle o’trim. Heavy weight lambs in strong demand and good to sell with plenty of pens between 47kg and 50kg selling £20 above their weight. Better types of lambs continue to sell in excess of 160ppk topping at 168ppk from d & dw prickett of farleton house. Less mules in the market today but sold to £61 for 43kg from t ayrton & son of yates farm.  

Cast sheep - A few less ewes forward today, topping at £86 for a Suffolk ewe from St Birkett, Nether Kellet. A nice pen of Texels from T.R.Prickett, hutton roof hall to £83. Mules to £58 from C.Hargreaves, Overton and £57 from wm pye, stodday. Overall average of £58.18 for all forward.

Prime beef - Two prime bull forward today from Peter and Anne Bell of village farm sold hereford bulls to 179.5ppk and welsh black to 167.5ppk with more bulls desperately needed at Lancaster.

Mule: £61 yates farm; £61 north farm; £59 high house farm.

Cast sheep – Suffolk: £86 hall croft barn. Texel: £83 hutton roof hall. Cheviot: £68 Hutton Roof hall. Hrn: £59 field house. Mule: £58 pedder grove; £57 tarnwater farm.
