I started a hare running with my letter a little while ago when I recounted a dangerous near miss with a pavement cyclist in Kendal. As well as bemoaning this irresponsible and antisocial behaviour which is now so prevalent, I raised the question of registration plates for cycles, though I wasn’t being too serious.
A greater concern is the need for third party insurance as cycling becomes promoted more and more as a mainstream activity, and paths shared with pedestrians, legally or not, more common.
If insurance became compulsory, taken out maybe as part of a household policy or through a cycling club, then an insurance company supplied numbered and dated sticker could see both concerns covered in one.
