Ulverston Dickensian Festival

Saturday 28 & Sunday 29 November

Ulverston will be transported back in time as locals don period costume for the popular annual Dickensian Christmas Festival. Shopkeepers and residents all get into the spirit of the event by dressing in traditional Victorian costume for the annual parade. There’s a fabulous Christmas market held on Ulverston’s pretty cobbled streets, with lots of unusual gifts and festive food. The huge variety of free entertainment includes costume competitions, balloon modelling, horse-drawn carriages, a wonderful traditional fairground, complete with Helter Skelter, dancing and plenty of live music - from folk to brass bands.

Now in its seventeenth year, the festival has become one of the most popular Dickensian Festival events in the country. It attracts thousands of visitors, yet it is not too crowded for people to wander round at their leisure and savour the wonderful atmosphere of how a traditional market town may have been in the Dickensian era.

The event involves the whole community of the town, who work together to deliver an exciting and varied programme of events over the two days. Nearly 15 local musical acts will be volunteering their time to play at The Busker Zone in the Market Hall during this year's festival.

Locals and visitors are encouraged to enter into the spirit of the fair by dressing in period costume.

Parking is available on all town centre car parks and on-street parking is available south off the A590. Visit: dickensianfestival.co.uk
