GOVERNORS, staff and students at Settle College are celebrating after Ofsted inspectors said the school was 'good' in every single category.

It was praised for its teaching, leadership, students' personal development and attainment.

Previously, the 586-pupil school was said to be requiring improvement.

The inspectors said: "The quality of teaching is now good, with some examples of outstanding practice, particularly in the sixth form. As a result, all groups of pupils now make good progress in all key stages."

They added the school's curriculum was aspirational and inclusive, with students enjoying the challenge of "academic rigour". "Pupils are positive about the school and are keen to learn," they said.

Mention was also made of pupils' strong spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

"Pupils are given a lot of of time to think carefully about important contemporary issues such as the refugee crisis and recent terrorist activity in France," the inspectors added: "Pupils also think very carefully about life in modern Britain, our values and our place in the world."

There was praise for the governing body, which was described as highly effective, and the increasingly successful sixth form.

"Achievement is not yet outstanding because there are variations in attainment and rates of progress," said the inspectors.

They highlighted three areas for improvement - to raise pupils' progress and attainment further, strengthen the impact of subject leadership and further improve the culture of achievement at the school.

Principal Michele Costello said: "The improvements that have taken place since the last inspection have only occurred due to the dedication and expertise of staff and governors, our amazing hard-working students and the full support of parents and carers.

"We are incredibly proud of the outcome of the inspection but this does not diminish our desire to strive for excellence in all that we do."

And chairman of governors, Rosemary Rees, added: "The governors are all absolutely delighted with this excellent outcome of the Ofsted inspection. We would like to congratulate all staff, students and their parents and carers for the hard work and commitment that has made this possible."
