RETIREES are snubbing the seaside for market towns, with Kendal being chosen as a top destination.
As people live longer, pensioners are seeking to lead the kind of active lifestyles that Cumbria has to offer.
Credit checking firm Experian profiled the UK’s pensioner population and split them into four groups, working out where in the United Kingdom members of each category were most likely to live.

In the 'downsizers' category, South Lakeland's Kendal was ranked at number five.
By downsizing, retirees are able to free up cash, allowing them to spend more freely.
Richard Jenkins, lead consultant at Experian, said: "A rising trend is for better-off retirees to move not to the traditional seaside resorts, but instead to pleasant, often historic, cathedral cities and market towns."
