THE driver of a vehicle which caused a closure to the M6 this morning has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police said the white HGV left the southbound carriageway and was seen on the embankment between the northbound and southbound carriageways of the M6 before it collided with a bridge parapet.

Police say his condition was not life threatening and he has been taken to Royal Preston Infirmary.

The southbound carriageway of the M6 was closed as a result of the collision which happened at approximately 4.20am.

One lane remains closed while collision investigators work the scene and repairs are carried out, but two have since reopened.

Police have warned travellers there could be short delays.

It is not clear what caused the collision and police are appealing for witnesses to contact them with information on 101.
