Jamie Gosling submitted this photograph of an adder he came across on Scout Scar, near Kendal.
"I was walking on Scout Scar when I saw two young guys looking at the ground. To my delight they showed me a small brown Adder, who looked very young and was no longer that 22-25cm and slightly thicker than a pen.

"I must have walked over Scout Scar several hundred times and this is first time I have ever seen a snake in England. Great stuff!"
Meanwhile Sarah Beddows, of Poulton le Fylde, took a photograph of a creature whilewalking recently near to the ferry at Windermere.
"Is it a snake or a slow worm?" she asked. "He was slithering down the path in quite a rush but stopped and seemed to be hoping I hadn't spotted him camouflaged by the stones. I have never seen a snake before in the Lake District either."
